    Font - A good friend, Jay from was moving to NYC with his GF and another friend of theirs from college Lisa. I had been in NYC for a few years already in a cpy but manageable apartment. I traveled a lot for work and I was fine with my situation. Once they realize the rent costs out here, Jay & GF keep pushing for us to get a nicer two-bedroom and we'll split the costs three ways. since they arrived, Lisa disappeared having her own friends. she'll occasionally stop by on the weekends and crash on

    Font - Every bone in my body is saying this is a bad idea but I give it a go. I really don't see them much. I'm on the road nearly every week, I get back late Friday night, I do my expense reports for work, check in on the bills for the apartment then leave again Sunday afternoon. Jay asks that I let him know the rare week I'm not traveling so he knows GF will not be home alone. I didn't think much of it. For the first few months, the bills were growing and I was paying a little more than i expe

    Font - until one weekend, GF gives me a note with my share of the bills and a $500 phone/tv bill saying that is mine (note they claimed maybe $80 of the rest of the bill) Its a bunch of calls on the phone land-line to California and a ton of On-Demand movies purchased. me: These aren't my purchases, there is no way I'm paying for them. GF: this is simple math, they aren't mine, they aren't Jays, so they have to be yours.

    Font - me (as I have a folder with all my receipts i keep in a file until I get my reimbursement): I was in Boston & Baltimore for all of these bills, there is literally no way of I could have made those calls. GF: I don't care what your papers say, It wasn't me and it wasn't Jay

    Font - This loop continues for an hour, at which point i politely ask her to leave my room, red in the face show vows I'm paying my share. Jay finally turns up late night. understandably, he takes his GF side and is trying to appeal to me rationally to own up to my side of the deal. I'm showing him dozens of receipts placing me hundreds of miles away and the loop starts all over that it wasn't Jay or GF so it had to be me.

    Font - I lock my door, leave and I meet up with my boss for dinner. again as I travel so much, we try to catch up over dinner & a drink when I'm back in town. I explain the situation and he's thinks something else is going on. He asks if I'm on the lease and I'm not; its just Jay & GF. He advises to keep all my receipts showing where i was if they try to go after me in small claims court but also as I'm not on the lease, I should really consider moving out, he's telling me the situation is only

    Font - That Sunday morning I change my door handle from the generic indoor lock to a keyed lock. the tension is thick as the bill is still not resolved, I don't talk to Jay or GF the rest of the day as they are out and about. Sunday night, I'm in my room, door locked in bed trying to figure out what the h I'm going to do. then the fun begins;

    Font - note this is extremely important to the story- they don't know I'm still home as I'd normally be on the train to Boston by 5pm. 8pm rolls by and I hear my door jiggle, and GF say, "that SoB changed the lock, YOU MF!!! YOU POS MF!!!" she is screaming hysterically at the top of her lungs. I'm trying to figure out 1) why is she so angry? 2) why is she trying to open my door? Now I hear Jay trying to open the door and he calmly says to GF that they can just jimmy open the door with a butter k

    Font - Windoula I wouldn't call being bothered by what amounts to a stranger living in your personal space as feeling "oddly violated". That's a legitimate way to feel and I'm glad you go out of there. That was really shady.

    Font - apocalypticradish Of course they tried the "but you're never here" excuse like that makes it all okay. For me (and a lot of other people), you'd be the perfect roommate. Pays the rent and uses their room when they're home but travels for work a lot. F those idiots.

    Font - Mojibacha Dude, sue them. Especially if it's about unpaid bills and the fact that you know what they did and gave your own paper trail. If I were you, I wouldn't let this s fly. Reply Share 29 [deleted] Everyone moved on; the voicemails stopped after a couple of weeks. They got busted scamming me and I'm assuming realized they had no grounds. I literally have not seen them since that night it's been over a decade

    Font - FeralSparky Id leave it as a lesson learned. And a good way to never have to see them again. They will be avoiding him for the rest of their lives. Same reason why I dont bother chasing people down for $20- 100 loans. If it only took me $20 to keep a person who ended up being a piece of st to stay away from me then I got a good deal. They will always avoid me because they will know they owe me money.

    Font - [deleted] Wow. The fact they obviously saw nothing wrong with what they were doing by getting mad at you when they were caught is ridiculous.
